Now, who would want to steal a dolphin, and why? A quick look through Carrey's filmography will prove that Ace Ventura is the film that really acted as a springboard for his career. I just love the irony I guess. I was a little bummed to find out that Courteney Cox wasn't returning in the second installment, but they did just fine without her. . The great thing about this movie is that it doesn't settle for outlandish set-ups that only seem to be jokes. Sure-fire entertainment for fans of this genre. Despite most views of this movie, I thought it was just as good as and in some aspects better than the original.
Sconvolto per non aver potuto salvare un procione durante uno sfortunato incidente, l'acchiappa-animali Ace Ventura si ritira in un Ashram buddhista, per ritrovare la pace con se stesso. This movie gets full bang for its comedic buck. Description Ace Ventura, emerging from self-imposed exile in a remote Himalayan hideaway, travels to Africa with explorer Fulton Greenwall to find a sacred bat which is told will avert a war between with Wachootoo and Wachati tribes. Right off the bat, it is a Jim Carrey showcase: chasing missing albino pigeons, rescuing a pampered shiatsu, and making high speed getaways, this all works because it is Ace Ventura, a hilarious, live-action cartoon character who spouts one-liners like an M-16. He had a few small roles in films previous to Ace Ventura, the largest of which was probably his role as one of the aliens in the awful film Earth Girls Are Easy, but after Ace Ventura, his career skyrocketed. I also loved the fact that he is a lover of all animals, except Bats. Well, it's definitely low-brow, but it also has some gags that are undeniably clever.
This is not the type of movie that is likely to win any awards, but you will remember the hilarious dialogue and Jim Carrey's immediately recognizable rubber-faced antics in this film that served as a spring board to his career, which later brought us many more excellent movies. But maybe, years and years from now, it will achieve the kind of subversive cult-film status it deserves. The whole crying game idea may have gone a little too far, but it was always amusing. Aimed mostly at fans who really enjoy silly humor, others will quickly find it tiresome. Of course, when Ace gets involved, all hell breaks loose.
This film is too casually dismissed because it looks like a terrible movie. He's the right man for the job but his childish idiosyncrasies, uncanny bond with animals, and aberrant investigative techniques cause outsiders to question whether or not he can actually make good on his word. Tom Shadyac is not attached to this movie for some reason. It's a whacky comedy that made Jim Carrey a star. Comedy Summoned from an ashram in Tibet, Ace finds himself on a perilous journey into the jungles of Africa to find Shikaka, the missing sacred animal of the friendly Wachati tribe. There's something about seeing a slob at a tremendously rich party who just doesn't care about the etiquette of the rich people.
